Like everyone else, we are a product of history and geography. We remember the scents, the sounds and the scenery. We remember the look and feel of landscapes we grew up in and objects we were surrounded by. A clock on the wall, a plastic tablecloth, a book cover, the texture of a document you used to carry around, a specific typography in a convenience store.
As technology has mercilessly globalized and uniformed our everyday aesthetics, our past can sometimes serve as a refuge, a place we visit and find something unique and distinctive. Far from shying away from it, we embrace it and tap into it for inspiration.

Everyone grows up against a background noise, a backdrop consisting of hundreds of little visual anchors. For some reason our backdrop – growing up in the late 80s and 90s – was a characteristic orange colour that could be seen everywhere: the waiting room chairs, grandma’s enamel cooking pan, the neighbour’s floor lamp and the plastic coffee table. It was prevalent and it stood out. That’s where the inspiration for Popola’s main brand colour comes from.
Another visual artifact we got inspired by was the paper driving licence (was it really paper?) quickly going extinct these days that has a specific crumply, soft and rubber-like texture with a characteristic black and pink color combination.
The other classic we grew up around is the iconic Dalmatian cookbook that could be found on every respectable bookshelf, known for its great recipes but very recognizable because of its simple blue cover and stark yellow title.
