Zagreb that (one) loves

The name of the campaign and the main headline – Zagreb koji se voli – isn’t as straightforwardly translated, if one must try, we would say it’s a combination of Zagreb that loves and Zagreb that one loves.

The dual meaning is there on purpose – it’s meant to communicate the fact that a significant (and vocal!) LGBTIQ community lives in Zagreb, free to love whomever they choose and, on the other hand, that freedom and tolerance is exactly why the people who live in Zagreb love this city for.

The context

In recent years, we have witnessed an increasing number of physical assaults on and harassment of members of the LGBTIQ community – both in Croatia and across Europe. At the same time, we are seeing a rollback of some political rights, especially in Central and Eastern Europe with a number of proposed (and sometimes implemented) anti-LGBT laws.

This campaign is meant to counter those trends – its goals are to increase LGBTIQ visibility, promote equality and tolerance and provide information on how to identify discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes.
